As part of the Spring Palmetto Tour 2025–2026, students from Haywood Early College embarked on an enriching college exploration experience across South Carolina. This year’s tour provided students with the opportunity to visit three distinct institutions: the College of Charleston, the University of South Carolina, and Charleston Southern University. Each campus offered a unique perspective on college life, academics, and community.

At the College of Charleston, students were captivated by the historic charm of the campus and the rich cultural backdrop of the surrounding city. A highlight of this visit included a tour of the School of Engineering and the Grace Marine Laboratory, where students gained insight into innovative programs and hands-on learning opportunities.

The University of South Carolina impressed students with its expansive campus and wide range of academic offerings designed to meet diverse interests. A particularly meaningful moment occurred when former Haywood Early College alumna, Harper Clark, now enrolled at the university, led our group on a personalized campus tour. This experience allowed current students to envision their own future paths while hearing firsthand about the transition to college life.

At Charleston Southern University, students experienced a more intimate campus environment, characterized by a strong sense of community and a focus on personal and academic growth. The welcoming atmosphere provided students with a clear picture of what a close-knit college experience can offer.

Overall, the Palmetto Tour was an invaluable experience that not only exposed students to a variety of postsecondary options but also helped them begin to envision themselves in these dynamic learning environments. Opportunities like this continue to support Haywood Early College’s mission of preparing students for success in both college and career pathways.
